Theodore Runyon papers, 1956-1998.

This collection focuses closely on Runyon's scholarly and professional activities at Candler School of Theology. There is little information about Runyon's background, except the one folder of biographical material that comprises Series I. The collection also lacks documentation of courses taught by Runyon at Candler School of Theology. Series II contains a variety of articles, addresses, and reviews by Runyon. Many of these writings reflect his interest in systemic theology. Other topics of note include Friedrich Gogarten, Carl Michalson, Runyon's teaching experiences in Africa, and the role of religion in the contemporary world. Series III contains Runyon's files on Candler faculty members and other individuals. The files contain writings (including drafts) and correspondence. Series IV is comprised of files on topics related to Runyon's professional interests. Topics include courses and programs of the Candler School of Theology, including the Baptist program, black church studies, contextual education, faculty retreats, interdepartmental seminars, Ministers' Week, and the construction of Cannon Chapel. Files in this series also document Runyon's service on Candler committees, as well as his involvement with the University Senate. Folders on Candler and on Emory University contain clippings, brochures, and items of general interest.
